The Iranian Parliament on Sunday voted to expel the U.K. ambassador over sanctions the British government placed on Tehran, according to reports.

Parliament voted with an overwhelming majority to downgrade its diplomatic ties with the U.K., with 179 representatives out of 183 voting in favor of the measure, according to the Fars News Agency.

“This unwarranted move will do nothing to help the regime address their growing isolation or international concerns about their nuclear program and human rights record,” according to the U.K. Foreign Office.

The U.K., in addition to the United States and Canada, placed economic sanctions on Tehran following a United Nations report that all but said Iran was attempting to manufacture nuclear weapons.

Britain also warned Iran against expelling its ambassador, Dominick Chilcott. “If the Iranian government acts on this, we will respond robustly in consultation with our international partners,” said the Foreign Office.
