Imperial Beach standoff: A man who allegedly assaulted a deputy sheriff and barricaded himself in an Imperial Beach neighbor’s house has surrendered after a standoff with SWAT officers.

U-T San Diego reports 30-year-old ... Richard Allen Perez threw furniture from a second-floor window at deputies, who sprayed the unit with pepper ball rounds.

The department says deputies were called to the area on Holly Avenue just before 7 a.m. Friday, and negotiators convinced Perez to surrender at about 11:45 a.m.

Neighbors called 911 to report yelling coming from a home. A deputy who responded was assaulted and taken to a hospital with minor injuries. A search then located the suspect in a unit in a nearby complex.

Reports that a shot was fired remain under investigation.
