TORONTO—It was a sold-out show at the Sony Centre on Saturday afternoon for the third of Shen Yun Performing Arts’ five-show run in Toronto.

Chaneer Sondhi, who used to own an insurance brokerage and now runs a retirement home although he’s semi-retired, attended the performance with his wife, daughter, and nephew.

“I really enjoyed it. The costumes, the coordination—it was nice,” he said.

New York-based Shen Yun tours the world showcasing Chinese traditional culture through dance and music—the music made by a unique live orchestra that combines Western and Chinese instruments.

“The music was very nice,” said Mr. Sondhi.

Mr. Sondhi’s daughter, Sangita, said she also enjoyed the performance.

“I thought the show was beautiful. It was really well-coordinated,” said Ms. Sondhi, who works in sales and customer service in the financial industry.

“They had a huge cast, a huge number of dancers, and great visuals, like the backdrops. I enjoyed it. It was lovely.”

Shen Yun has broken new ground with its animated backdrops, which interact with and enhance the various story-based dances being played out on stage.

“It was a very good show, very well done and very well planned,” said Ms. Sondhi’s mother, Mohani.

“The costumes were great.”
