An article saying there will be a $3 gas tax on January 1, 2015, is fake.

The bogus report, titled “Additional Three Dollar Gas Tax To Take Effect Jan 1st 2015,” was published on National Report, a satire website.

It reads: “>An environmental bill long championed by the Obama administration and environmental groups was quietly signed into law this week. The bill, initially expected to fail, was bolstered by last-minute support from a group of moderate Republicans seeking reelection in predominantly Democratic leaning states. The bill strengthens environmental pollution penalties, emission standards and creates a surprising new three dollar a gallon tax increase on gasoline.”

The article had tens of thousands of shares and “likes” on Facebook.

The National Report took down its original disclaimer, which used to read: “*DISCLAIMER: National Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news. Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental.”

The website’s owner has said he’s attempts to incite conservatives and Tea Party types.
