Last year, there were 34 documented cases of harassment, intimidation, and assault against peaceful protesters during CCP leader Xi Jinping’s visit.
Victorian businessman Di Sanh Duong is the first person to be charged and sentenced under Australia’s foreign interference laws.
Duong was found to have cultivated a relationship with an MP hoping he would be an advocate for pro-Beijing policies.
‘All lies say something about the credibility about the person who’s telling them, but some lies say more than that,’ the prosecution said.
‘Our bipartisan memo on united front work will help the American people recognize and resist the CCP’s malign influence.’
