NEW YORK—Beware inpatient drivers: mobile speed traps have hit the city streets and more are on the way as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Vision Zero initiative with the goal of reducing some 200 yearly pedestrian deaths to zero.

Albany didn’t hear them the first time, so speed camera advocates have taken it to the streets. Forty crime scenes appeared along Grand Street Wednesday night.

A speed camera installed by the Department of Transportation on Hylan Boulevard and Burbank Avenue has been shut off after inquiries.

The number of traffic deaths increased to 274 in 2012—speeding caused 81 of them.
