The central question is whether Airbnb is in fact disrupting the hotel business and changing the landscape of the lodging industry.
The vast majority of Airbnb listings are illegal, and “multi-million dollar businesses” of illegal hotel rentals are being run out of the most “gentrified neighborhoods” of New York City, according to a report Attorney General Eric Schneiderman released Oct. 16.
These are single room occupancy (SRO) buildings that are zoned as residential therefore evading commercial real estate taxes.
