A Florida couple is accused of leaving a minor alone in a trailer without any furniture for two months and often without any food, according to local reports.

The Pensacola News-Journal reported that 34-year-old Jennifer Nichols and 32-year-old Joshua Sanders were arrested and charged on Nov. 30 with child neglect.

Police didn’t list the age of the boy, but the News-Journal reported that he is a juvenile.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said that the boy was left inside a trailer that they rented. A witness who reported the alleged neglect said she rented the trailer to Sanders and Nichols since the start of September.

The child said that he was living there for two months, and he did speak with Nichols and Sanders on occasion. They would give him some money and one or two meals. However, he said he wasn’t able to contact them often, according to the News-Journal.

The child also said that he hadn’t been to school for several months, adding that he had merely clothes and shoes in the trailer---no furniture.

Sanders reportedly told police that he’s not responsible for the child, saying he was emancipated. The child, however, said otherwise, WTSP reported.

The child was taken into Florida Department of Children and Families custody.

Sanders and Nichols are being held on $250,000 and $150,000 bond, respectively.

It’s unclear if they have an attorney.
