The popular television series “Firefly” could return for a limited run, or a short season 2.

Though the chances of such a return are slim, Tim Minear, the show’s writer and producer, said in a recent interview that he would never foreclose the possibility of a return happening.

One of the largest problems is that Nathan Fillion is in an exclusive contract with ABC for the popular series “Castle.”

“In terms of getting the band back together to make a new adventure, who knows? I would love it,” Minear told Entertainment Weekly. “It would be great. But first everybody has their respective projects that limits them from crossing over into other things. It’s just trying to coordinate everybody’s obligations so they could somehow participate.”

If it were to happen, Minear speculated that a limited series in the way of Sherlock (which has 3 episode seasons) would work best.

It would also work well if it debuted on Fox but was then available to stream on Netflix soon after, Minear said.

A return to the series would have to happen without Alan Tudyk and Ron Glass, because Wash and Shepard died during the feature film “Serenity.”
