A rancher in Missouri has just seen a third cow of hers mutilated in strange ways and says that she doesn’t know how it happened--and that she’s not ruling out aliens as the source.
The third mutilation took place on July 19 and happened to a “very healthy” black angus cow that had “never been sick, never had pink eye, never given me any problems at all,” said Lyn Mitchell on a video posted on YouTube. When Mitchell found the cow, the cow’s tongue was cut out, and her heart was hanging out of her body.
Mitchell told local broadcaster RTV6 that the death was even more mysterious because there was a char mark outlining the cows body that was still visible when she came upon the cow.
The other two mutilations happened in December 2011 and July 9, 2013. Mitchell has a ranch in Henry County, Missouri.
Mitchell thought at first it could have been a band of teenagers or part of a sacrificial ritual but noticed with the third mutilation that the cuts precise and surgical and there was no blood around the bodies despite gaping wounds.
The sheriff’s department and veterinarian have both investigated and haven’t come up with a satisfactory answer.
“The more it happens, the more questions you get. And the more you learn, you find more and more things that make you ask more questions,” Mitchell said.
County Sheriff Chief Deputy Robert Hills told KMOX that it was indeed a mystery.
“We couldn’t see any signs of trauma, and it doesn’t appear that there was any type of wild animal, such coyotes, that were involved,” he said.
Animal mutilations were the focus of an FBi investigation in the 1970s at one point.
Mitchell said she is considering installing cameras to catch the person or thing that is doing this if they attempt to do it again.
