NOAA researchers with the Okeanos Explorer expedition recently encountered a glowing shrimp with some crazy antennae. Not only are the extensions enormous, they have a very pronounced bend to them. As a result, it looks like the shrimp is carting around a pair of dangling chopsticks.
Such developments are fairly common at great depths. Due to the dark environment, denizens of the deep need means other than sight to navigate their surroundings.
