Eric Bui along with a team of French psychiatrists from Toulouse University Hospital, published a recent article about the possibility of Darth Vader’s mental instability.

In the Psychiatry Research Journal, French psychoanalysts uncovered a combination of seemingly convincing elements in the Star Wars trilogy villain’s personality and deemed him unstable.

One of the most notable examples included Vader’s slaughter of a fictional tribe which was brought on by a fit of rage. Psychoanalysts say that a trademark characteristic of a patient with a personality disorder such as sudden violent outbursts directed at people or objects that have no connection to the source of the anger, reported ABC News.

Vader was also untrusting, which is a factor in a high volume of chaotic personal relationships. He is also prone to frequent temper tantrums, and confused with his personal identity, requiring him to wear a mask. Psychiatric experts have flagged these symptoms to be directly related to a borderline personality disorder.

It seems that Luke Skywalker could have been predisposed to the condition as well, due to separation anxiety from his father Darth Vader. Luke was not identified by the group of psychiatrists as being mentally unstable or unbalanced.
