Chinese Soldier Dies of Bird Flu

A 19-year-old Chinese soldier with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldier stationed in Fujian Province died of the bird flu known as H5N1 Avian Influenza, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO confirmed information from the Chinese Ministry of Health who declared this soldier was diagnosed with H5N1 bird flu on May 18 and died on June 3. He had been treated at a PLA’s hospital. The case brings the total number of China’s bird flu deaths to 16.
