The Canadian embassy in Kiev, Ukraine has been attacked amid violent protests in the country.

A group armed with sticks attacked the embassy, reported Itar-Tass.

The embassy had been sheltering hundreds of protesters.

The unidentified persons part of the group “started crushing property,” said Oleg Tatarov, the deputy head of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry.

They also tried to inflict bodily harm on embassy staff.

The government of Canada issued an advisory to citizens in the country on February 18, telling them to “exercise a high degree of caution” amid the intensifying demonstrations.

“These demonstrations have disrupted transportation and blocked major intersections, including those in close proximity to the Embassy of Canada in Kyiv. There have been multiple incidents of violence associated with these protests, which have resulted in injuries and fatalities, including in areas adjacent to popular tourist sites and commercial centers.”

The government advised people to maintain a low profile and remain indoors.
