The pilot of a hot air balloon died during an accident in Mont-St-Gregoire, Quebec, according to reports.

The CBC identified the pilot as Maxime Trepanier, who was involved in the accident at around 7:30 a.m.

His death was later confirmed after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

“It’s a tragic day,” a spokesperson for the hot air balloon festival told the broadcaster.

Quebec provincial police Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau told CP24 that investigators are trying to determine the cause of the accident.
