According to the Oriental Daily News, around the Chinese New Year, the demand in Beijing for male and female bodyguards exceeds the supply. Many people come to hire private bodyguards a week before the Chinese New Year. A male bodyguard can earn 1,600 yuan (US$ 200) for an 8-hour day. The gap between the supply and demand is greater for female bodyguards.

A consultant at a security consulting company said that many clients asked about hiring a private bodyguard. Most of the customers are businessmen. They normally ask for short-term service, such as a few days or a week. They hire two to four bodyguards each time.

The security consultant pointed out that there are a couple of reasons for the need of bodyguards. First, Chinese New Year is the time people go home and reunite with families. Businessmen who bring a lot of money and gifts with them need to hire bodyguards in order to feel safe. Second, with bodyguards, they feel better around people at home.

Female bodyguards with good martial arts have an advantage over male bodyguards. They are more attentive and less noticeable. Most female customers prefer to hire female bodyguards, and there is a shortage of female bodyguards from this company before the Chinese New Year.
