Reince Priebus says he is “much more comfortable” running against Hillary Clinton than Bernie Sanders in the general election come November.
The chairman of the Republican National Committee told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on April 15 that Clinton’s likability was a main factor:
“Much more comfortable and I think everyone that has analyzed this knows that Hillary Clinton is in the ditch,” Priebus said.
“She is not popular, unfortunately for her, she’s not likable.”
Blitzer responded, citing Clinton’s 2.5 million more votes than Sanders and a million more votes than Trump.
Priebus was not dissuaded, pointing to her ongoing FBI investigation into her email account server as Secretary of State.
“I’m telling you I'd rather run against Hillary Clinton because she’s defined. She’s not liked and you know, in a popular cultural vote in America, that’s an important question. I don’t know what’s going to happen with the FBI,” he said.
Blitzer was surprised, “That’s interesting that you fear Bernie Sanders more than you fear Hillary Clinton. That’s the bottom line, right?”
“I don’t fear either of them. I think after eight years of Obama, I think this is our year. But we have to work hard,” Priebus responded with a laugh.
Hillary Clinton is the frontrunner of the Democratic race, leading with 1,307 pledged delegates to Bernie Sanders’ 1,097 delegates. She also leads the Vermont Senator in superdelegates 469 to 31.
