The Chrysler 200 Super Bowl commercial featuring rapper Eminem was among the best Super Bowl advertisements in first half.

With no glam, no humor, and no girls, the car commercial stood out immediately from the rest. Although lacking in the usual eye catching techniques, the ad was widely praised by viewers.

The whole ad runs for a little more than two minutes, the longest of all the Super Bowl ads.

Starting off with various scenes of Detroit, we hear the narrator describe that despite the common conception that Detroit is a poor and backward city, it is where the best luxury cars are made. “What does a town that’s been to hell and back know about the finer things in life? Well, I’ll tell ya. More than most,” the narrator said.

Compared with New York City, Las Vegas and other cities with a glamorous exterior, Detroit is generally stereotyped as being gritty and crime-ridden.

Eminem’s famous hit, “Lose Yourself,” plays in the background, and the viewers catch a glimpse of the Chrysler 200. Eminem, one of Detroit’s most famous inhabitants, emerges from the car. He says: “This is the motor city. And this is what we do.”

Like a good movie, a good commercial keeps us thinking long after the transition. We are left with a mark in our heads, not only about the product, but also the company’s identity.
