Chelsea Rapist Indicted

A 20-year-old Brooklyn man was indicted on Wednesday for raping a woman last month in Chelsea.

NEW YORK—A 20-year-old Brooklyn man was indicted on Wednesday for raping a woman last month in Chelsea.

The defendant, Jonathan Salva, was charged for predatory sexual assault, rape, and robbery.

On February 21, 2009, Salva grabbed the female victim from behind as she walked along West 28th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues, at approximately 4 a.m. He dragged her into a dark area set back from the street.

At the time of the attack, the victim was listening to music on her iPhone. She later discovered was missing after the incident. But, she did find the attacker’s cell phone.

The victim reported the incident to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), and turned over the phone she found at the scene. He was arrested on Feb. 25, and is in custody. Salva faces up to 25 years in prison.
