The body of former U.S. President George H.W. Bush arrived on Monday, Dec. 3 at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, where mourners paid tribute to the man who led the nation as the Cold War ended.

Members of Bush’s cabinet, lawmakers and Supreme Court justices honored the 41st president inside the Capitol Rotunda.

The Bush family accompanied the patriarch’s body on the flight aboard Air Force One from Texas to Joint Base Andrews outside Washington, and then on a final trip down Pennsylvania Avenue to the steps of the Capitol.

The body of the Republican former president will lie in state at the Rotunda through Wednesday, when a state funeral is scheduled at the Washington National Cathedral.

There will be another funeral in Houston on Thursday, followed by burial at the Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas.

Bush served two terms as vice president under President Ronald Reagan before his own term as president, from 1989 to 1993.

Stock Market Soars After Trade Tariff Truce

U.S. stocks surged after the United States and China agreed to a 90-day truce in their trade dispute, sending the Dow up over 400 points after the opening bell on Dec. 3.

Global markets saw a boost as world stocks rose nearly 1 percent after the G-20 summit. An agreement was reached between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to postpone an increase on trade tariffs that will allow more time to smooth out the long-running dispute.

Trump agreed to hold off on plans to raise tariffs after China agreed to swiftly purchase a significant amount of American goods, including agricultural, energy, industrial, and other products, to reduce the U.S. trade deficit to China.

China will start buying agricultural products from U.S. farmers immediately.

The Falcon 9 blasted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 10:34 a.m. on Monday, arcing over the Pacific west of Los Angeles as it headed toward space.

If all goes well, the rocket’s first stage will perform a so-called boost back maneuver and land on an unmanned ship in the Pacific.
