Parts of Jamaica and Haiti could face catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding and landslides this weekend as Tropical Storm Melissa continues to intensify in the southern Caribbean, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Crawling east-southeast at 2 mph, Melissa’s center was tagged about 215 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, and about 250 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as of 11 a.m. ET on Oct. 24, with tropical-storm force winds (39–73 mph) extending 140 miles out.
