Canada has now won 14 medals at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina, most recently boosted by Steven Dubois nabbing gold in the men’s speed skating.

With the Games set to close on Feb. 22, here’s a recap of Canada’s medals so far and where the country stands the best chance of gaining more hardware going forward.

Medal Count

Canada’s medal count now sits at four gold, four silver, and six bronze.

Mikaël Kingsbury has achieved double medal success, securing gold in the Feb. 15 men’s dual moguls freestyle skiing event and earning silver on Feb. 12 after a tiebreaker loss in the final of the men’s moguls. Kingsbury’s performance at the Games cemented him as the most decorated freestyle skier in history.

Megan Oldham has also won two medals for Canada, securing gold in the women’s big air freestyle skiing on Feb. 16 and bronze in the women’s freestyle skiing slopestyle on Feb. 9. She is the first Canadian woman to win two Olympic medals in freestyle skiing at the same Games.

The Canadian women’s long-track speed skating team has had a memorable Games after successfully defending their Olympic title. Ivanie Blondin, Valérie Maltais, and Isabelle Weidemann won gold on Feb. 17, making them the first team to secure back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the women’s team pursuit since 2010.

Courtney Sarault has also made history. She is the first Canadian short-track speed skater to secure four medals in one Olympic Games after claiming bronze in the women’s 3,000-metre relay on Feb. 18, along with teammates Danae Blais, Kim Boutin, and Florence Brunelle.

Sarault also won a bronze in women’s 500 metre short-track speed skating and two silvers, one on her own in the women’s 1,000 metre speed skating event, and one in the mixed team relay with fellow skaters Kim Boutin, William Dandjinou, and Félix Roussel. Florence Brunelle and Steven Dubois also received medals for helping the team in earlier rounds.

Brunelle competed in the quarterfinals alongside Sarault, Dandjinou, and Roussel, while Dubois participated in the semifinals with Boutin, Sarault, and Dandjinou.

Dubois also added to his medal count in the Feb. 18 men’s 500 metre event. He held his early lead throughout the race to win gold.

Snowboarder Éliot Grondin is now a triple Olympic medallist after securing silver in the men’s cross event on Feb. 12. He won two medals in Beijing 2022, a silver in the same event, as well a bronze in the snowboard cross mixed team event.

Canada also has four other bronze medallists: Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier in ice dance, Valérie Maltais in women’s 3,000 metre speed skating, and Laurent Dubreuil in men’s 500 metre speed skating.

Canada is currently in 11th place overall. Norway leads the pack with 15 gold medals, eight silvers, and 10 bronzes, followed by Italy in second place, and the United States in third.

Future Medal Predictions

Blondin is a strong contender in the upcoming mass start event, the only long track skating competition where all participants race at the same time. She enters this weekend’s race as a top favourite after previously winning silver in the event at Beijing 2022.

Anticipation is building over the Canadian men’s hockey team, which is stacked with NHL stars including Connor McDavid, Drew Doughty, and Sidney Crosby. The team enters the playoffs as the No. 1 overall seed after dominating preliminary rounds with resounding victories over Czechia, Switzerland, and France.

Crosby and Doughty have helped take Canada to gold twice before at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In women’s hockey, Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin recently broke the all-time Olympic goal scoring record—however, challenges remain. The team will play for gold against the United States on Feb. 19, but they are considered underdogs following a 5-0 preliminary loss to the Americans.

In freestyle skiing, Cassie Sharpe is a strong contender for a medal, after winning a gold in the 2018 Olympics and silver in 2022 in women’s halfpipe. Rachael Karker, who won bronze at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, could also be in the running.

Men to watch in freestyle skiing include the experienced aerials team of Lewis Irving, Marion Thénault, and Miha Fontaine, who nabbed bronze in 2022, and Émile Nadeau. The team is considered a strong contender for a medal, but are not favoured to win gold.

Further medals could be seen in curling, where Canada’s men’s and women’s curling teams have previously won six gold medals. Both teams are expected to be in podium contention for gold. This year, the event was marred when Canadian curler Marc Kennedy was accused of breaking the rules by Swedish curler Oskar Eriksson. The incident led to the addition of more umpires to watch for rule-breaking.

Canada won 26 medals at the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing, securing four gold, eight silvers and 14 bronze medals.
