|Updated:
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on July 17 to create a new classification of noncareer federal workers whose roles are focused on implementing the president’s policy agenda.
Federal staff hired under Schedule G classification will engage in “policy-making or policy-advocating” work, and their positions will be exempt from career-employee protections, making it easier for federal agencies to remove them, according to a fact sheet accompanying the order.
