NOAA Expects Warm and Dry South, Cold and Wet North This Winter

There is around a 70 percent chance of La Nina developing this winter, the agency said in its winter outlook report.

Most of the United States should expect a warmer and drought-developing winter this year, while colder and wetter conditions will be restricted to the northern parts of the country, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Winter Outlook released Oct. 17.

The meteorological winter season runs from December 2024 through February 2025.
