Train Conductor Spots Something on Tracks Ahead, Slams On Brakes, Finds Poor Abandoned Pup

June 27, 2019 Updated: July 2, 2019

“How can there be such bad people,” said Andres Fabricio Argandoña Tapia, a railway train conductor from Llay Llay, a small town a few hours’ drive from Santiago, Chile.

The sharp-sighted train driver had spotted a dark blotch on the train tracks ahead and had hit the brakes in time so as to avoid hurting whatever, or whoever, it was. It didn’t bother to move even as the train drew near.

Tapia soon realized that it was a small brown dog, and that someone had chained the poor animal to one of the railroad ties on the tracks.

The conductor decided to video-record the episode—which is likely why we’re all now hearing about it—from the moment he stepped off the train to when he approached the abandoned and seemingly scared animal.

The dog barked and tugged on the chain to-and-fro, appearing somewhat unsettled and uncertain of Tapia, the big noisy train, and the whole situation.

“How can there be such bad people who have tied little dogs to the road?” Tapia is heard muttering in the video. “Hopefully, one day, the human race will change.”

That’s when the video cut out, but it certainly was not the end of the story.

Tapia freed the dog from its chains and set it free.

Afterward, Tapia, like many regular folks who are plugged in on social media, shared the shocking encounter on his Facebook page. He probably never expected it to go viral, as it did, though. The video has been viewed over 450,000 times since he posted it online a little over a week ago.

Not only that, but among those who took notice was the local mayor of Llay Llay, Edgardo Gonzalez, who has pledged to take action, to find the culprits, bring them to justice, and take care of the stray pup whose life was needlessly put on the line.

“We are shocked by the cruelty seen in our society, and strongly condemn this act against such a defenseless animal,” said Gonzalez, as local media La Republica reported. “We appreciate the attitude that the driver had, who saved the life of this pet.”

He added, “As a municipality, we will take the corresponding actions [to bring] a lawsuit against those responsible and we will also contact the engineer to offer all our help to provide this little puppy with veterinary medical care, microchips, deworming and sterilization.”

He also pledged to find a new forever home for the poor pooch, if they are able to find it, and a loving human family to care for it. Hopefully, they can make that happen.

Shar Pei Was Injured & Living on Railroad Tracks–When Rescuers Arrive, It Gets Extremely Dangerous!

When the Southern California rescue team Hope For Paws got a call about an injured Shar Pei living on a set of railroad tracks, they set out for what they thought would be a routine rescue mission.

After Lisa Arturo and JoAnn Wiltz arrived on the scene, though, they realized capturing the beautiful dog would be a lot more dangerous and difficult than they had thought.

Armed with nothing but a burger, the women approached the suspicious Shar Pei, hoping to get close enough to loop her around the neck and take her to safety. But it soon becomes clear she isn’t interested in food, growing increasingly skeptical of her well-intentioned rescuers instead.

So, Lisa and JoAnn decided to take a different approach.

While JoAnn tosses pieces of burger at the dog, Lisa sneaks up from behind and manages to loop her snout—except it quickly slips off and the frightened dog makes a run for it in the opposite direction.

After a few frantic moments, JoAnn captures the Shar Pei with a snare pole while she squeals in terror. And, in a final moment of desperation, the terrified dog lunges toward Lisa, but JoAnn constrains her just in time before she can reach Lisa’s face.

They knew they had to move fast for everyone’s safety. The Shar Pei, which they later named Tweedy, struggled violently against the restraints, causing her mouth to bleed. Finally, they put her in a large cage, unlooped her, and got her some water.

Once Tweedy arrived at the shelter and started recuperating from much-needed surgery, she warmed up to Lisa and JoAnn. As some viewers mentioned in comments, this rescue was definitely difficult to watch, but it was clearly well worth it in the end.
