Seth MacFarlane, the Oscars host for 2013, started getting a paycheck for his drawing when he was only 9-years-old.
He was born in Kent, Connecticut, on Oct. 26, 1973. His father was a teacher and his mother was an academic administrator.
MacFarlane started drawing cartoons when he was 2. When he was 9, he began publishing his own comic strip in the local newspaper.
He continued drawing and animating throughout his high school and college years at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
MacFarlane’s college thesis film, “Life of Larry,” and “Larry & Steve,” was the start of what later became “Family Guy” animated sitcom series.
“Family Guy” was nominated for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards and 11 Annie Awards. In 2009, it was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series—the first time an animated series was nominated for the award since “The Flintstones” in 1961.
MacFarlane drew Flintstone cartoons as a child.
MacFarlane also animated “American Dad!” and “The Cleveland Show.”
