A would-be robber armed with a gun attempted to go after three students in Norfolk, Va., according to police.

However, he picked the wrong people to target.

Kentrail H. May, 21, was left bruised and bloodied by the people he was trying to rob, police said, according to WTVR.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that three men were walking in the area, when a suspect approached and brandished a handgun,” police told the station. “The suspect then demanded their property and belongings. The men attempted to fight back and were able to detain the suspect until police were called. Upon police arrival, the suspect was immediately taken into custody and the handgun secured without further incident.”

The group of students were from Old Dominion University, and May is now being held in the Norfolk City Jail.

The students spoke with another station, WAVY.com reported. “They asked to remain anonymous. According to their story, they, along with a woman, crossed 43rd street where a man was waiting for them,” the report said.

May made them get down on the ground and searched them for valuables. May then hit one of the men in the face, said one of the students.

Another man got up and began to wrestle May. The others got up, subdued him, and then waited for police to arrive, WAVY reported.

May was injured, while the three men suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
