If you ever encounter a deer up close in the wild, it can be a magical experience.
For Officer Rick Byram and Detective Tim Vogel of the Madeira Police Department in Ohio, their recent deer encounter may have been a little less idyllic.
They responded to a call about a deer in distress and found the animal lying in a muddy puddle, tangled in the net of a soccer goal.
“Madeira officers routinely respond to reports of animals in distress, and due to the unpredictable nature of wild animals these kind of calls for service can be very hazardous to officers,” the department stated on its Facebook page.
The deer gets agitated at first as the officer approaches it, but then calms down and lets one of the rescuers cut through the net with a knife.
But after a minute the deer starts to struggle again.
Finally, after about two minutes, the deer is free. In a trice, it jumps up and speeds away.
“No thank you? No nothing?” one of the rescuers called in the direction of the animal.
“How about a thank you letter to the chief?” the other quipped.
The video was captured by a bystander, the police stated.
