Plastic pollution and microplastics are a growing concern for millions of Americans across the political spectrum. The issue hit the headlines last February when researchers at the University of New Mexico published the results of their measurements of the microplastic content in the brains of recently deceased cadavers. The average was seven grams—the weight of a plastic spoon.
