Revolution! The Atlantic World Reborn

The first major exhibit of the New York Historical Society after it officially opened last week following a three-year, $70 million renovation, explores the interconnectedness between the American, French, and Haitian revolutions, which all occurred around the same 25-year period. The updated facility includes new cutting-edge multimedia installations, a new children’s history museum and library, and a new Italian restaurant by acclaimed restaurateur Stephen Starr.

Mozart’s ‘Don Giovanni’

A brand new opera company, Vocal Productions NYC will present its very first production of “Don Giovanni,” one of the most performed operas in the world. The Mozart opera tells the story of an 18th century playboy and womanizer, who ultimately has to pay for all of his many sins. Singing this uncut version in Italian, Vocal Productions NYC will aspire to great heights in its first production. Whether it makes it or not is yet to be seen.

Beowulf Consort Concert

A spirited collaboration of like-minded musicians, the Beowulf Consort is dedicated to presenting imaginative concerts that appeal to audiences of all ages. Their beautiful and educational chamber music will feature mezzo-soprano Hanne Ladefoged-Dollase, Frank Foerster on viola, Jose Luis Rodriguez on harp, Lawrence Zoernig on cello, and Nelson Padgett on piano.

Bolshoi Ballet Live: ‘The Sleeping Beauty’

In a live broadcast beamed directly from Russia, the internationally acclaimed Bolshoi Ballet performs “The Sleeping Beauty,” with new choreography by Yuri Grigorovich, based on the original by Marius Petipa, and set to music by Tchaikovsky. Feature dancers include David Hallberg and Svetlana Zakharova, the ballet follows the classic fairy tale by Perrault.

Jeffrey Kahane Conducts Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven

Music direct of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Jeffrey Kahane will conduct the New York Philharmonic in performances of Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe, Mozart’s Symphony No. 33, and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Kahane himself will play the harpsichord and piano. Other highlighted performers include Sheryl Staples on violin and Liang Wang on Oboe.
