Live Q&A: Trucker Convoy Could Tear Down Virus Mandates; Biden Sending Troops to Eastern Europe
American truckers are joining with the tens of thousands of Canadian truckers to protest vaccine mandates, and public support is growing for them in both countries.
Brian Von D, the administrator at “Convoy to DC 2022,” announced in a live video on Facebook that truckers from both countries are joining forces—and will drive from California to Washington. He said that as truckers move to support the Canadian trucker protests, “America is next.” He said, according to The Epoch Times, “As [the Canadian convoy] moved from the west to the east, [the American truckers] have been filtering into this convoy, and it is absolutely massive. It is known worldwide, it is the largest thus far.”
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden announced on Friday that he will move U.S. troops, “not a lot,” to Eastern Europe and to NATO member countries. This is in response to the threat of Russia invading eastern Ukraine. The superpower now has an estimated 100,000 troops, along with tanks and other weapons, at Ukraine’s northeast border. Russia is demanding that NATO guarantee it will never grant NATO membership to Ukraine, and is asking NATO to remove its forces from Central and Eastern Europe. On the U.S. side, it’s not clear how many troops “not a lot” is, but the Pentagon announced on Jan. 24 that if the situation warrants it, the United States has 8,500 troops at “heightened readiness to deploy.”
Also on Friday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said, “If NATO activates its response forces, these troops will be ready to go.” But he also clarified that Biden “does not intend to put troops into Ukraine for combat operations.” The troops they have readied for this are already in the region, and Lloyd Austin said they have “multiple capabilities.” He added, “There is a small contingent of U.S. and NATO advisors and trainers currently in Ukraine. The United States has zero offensive combat weapons systems, nor any permanent forces, nor bases in Ukraine. Our role is limited in that we help train, advise and assist with tactics, techniques, and procedures.”
