“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has raked in a record-breaking $355 million in the United States and Canada during its opening weekend, making it the second-largest North American debut in box office history.

Internationally, the film grossed $572 million across 73,500 screens, bringing its worldwide opening total to $927 million and the second-largest global debut ever.

China played a major role in the film’s overseas success, generating $121 million during its opening weekend to become one of the movie’s biggest international markets. Strong attendance across Europe, Latin America, and Asia further fueled its performance.

The Marvel and Sony blockbuster trailed behind “Avengers: Endgame,” which reported $357 million in ticket sales its first weekend in 2019, and $1.2 billion globally during its opening.

Industry analysts had anticipated a strong performance, but the final tally exceeded its initial prediction of $325 million for its opening weekend.

The record-setting feat also reshaped the list of the biggest opening weekends in North American box office history. “Brand New Day” surpassed the $260 million domestic launch of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021 to become the highest-opening Spider-Man film ever released.

Rounding out the top of the list are “Avengers: Infinity War” with $257 million in 2018 and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in 2015 with $247 million.

“This debut reflects the enduring power of Marvel’s characters, and the connection they continue to have with fans around the world,” said Marvel Studios president and “Spider-Man” producer Kevin Feige in a statement. “As audiences saw, it sets up exciting things to come.”

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, “Brand New Day” follows the latest chapter of Peter Parker, reprised by Tom Holland, and the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” where his identity was erased from public memory.

The film pairs Holland with returning cast members including Zendaya as “MJ” and several new additions, offering a fresh direction while maintaining connections to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“[The film’s debut] reinforces that moviegoers are hungry for stories that are both spectacular and deeply human,” said producer Amy Pascal following its release.

“Brand New Day” also gave a significant boost to Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” starring both Holland and Zendaya. In its third weekend, the movie added $51 million domestically to finish in second place at the North American box office.

According to Rentrak, which provides film industry data and analytics, the two films fueled an estimated $430 million in ticket sales across North American theaters over the weekend, making it the highest-grossing weekend in the region’s box office history.
