Actor George Clooney and his family have temporarily evacuated their home in southern France as fast-moving wildfires threatened parts of the Provence region.
On Thursday, the Oscar-winner, 65, his wife Amal Clooney, 48, and their two children left their property near Brignoles, an area east of Marseille.
Writing a letter to the town’s mayor, Didier Bremond, the couple expressed their concern for their home and neighbors while reaffirming their commitment to supporting the community during the recovery process.
“At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment and as we evacuate Brignoles,” read their letter.
“First we hope you and the people of our city are safe,” they said. “Second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole.”
The wildfire near Brignoles is one of several fires that have affected southern Europe in recent days, with France, Spain, Greece, and other Mediterranean countries facing elevated wildfire risks during periods of extreme heat.
Officials across the region have urged residents to remain alert as dry vegetation and persistent heat create favorable conditions for rapidly spreading fires.
More than 2,200 firefighters were deployed alongside more than 20 water-dropping aircraft, with additional personnel and equipment arriving from other regions of France and several other European nations to assist local crews.
On July 26, 55,000 people were forced to evacuate overnight, increasing the overall number of residents temporarily displaced during the emergency to roughly 250,000.
George and Amal Clooney made France their primary residence in 2021, seeking a quieter lifestyle for their family away from Hollywood.
“I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he told the outlet in October 2025.
“France—they kind of don’t give a [expletive] about fame,” he continued. “I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
