Singer Chris Brown has been denied bail in the United Kingdom after being arrested and charged in an alleged attack at a London nightclub in 2023.
The R&B singer will remain in custody until his next hearing in mid-June, jeopardizing the start of his tour.
According to The Metropolitan Police, the 36-year-old was arrested at a Manchester hotel just after 2 a.m. on May 15.
The charge—inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent—stems from a February 2023 incident at a nightclub in London’s Hanover Square, where Brown allegedly attacked a music producer with a bottle.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial,” said Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, Adele Kelly, in a statement.
“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Brown appeared before Judge Joanne Hirst in Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16 and was remanded into custody. He will remain behind bars ahead of his next court appearance on June 13 at London’s Southwark Crown Court.
The singer is slated to kick off his Breezy Bowl XX Stadium World Tour on June 8 with a show in Amsterdam, followed by performances in Germany on June 11 and 13.
According to prosecutor Hannah Nicholls, Brown launched an “unprovoked attack” on producer Abe Diaw while on tour in the United Kingdom two years ago. Nicholls said the reported attack was caught on surveillance footage and allegedly shows Brown striking Diaw with a bottle before punching and kicking him.
As a result, Diaw filed a $16 million civil complaint against the musician.
This isn’t the first time Brown has faced assault charges or legal disputes. In 2009, he was arrested and charged with felony assault after a domestic violence incident with his former girlfriend and pop singer Rihanna.
In 2019, Brown was detained in Paris after a woman filed a complaint accusing him of raping her at the Le Mandarin Oriental Hotel. He denied the allegations and later sued the woman for defamation after the investigation was dropped.
More recently, he was sued for $50 million after allegedly assaulting four men backstage at his Texas concert in 2024.
Earlier this year, Brown sued Warner Bros. Discovery and several others for $500 million over a documentary that explored his alleged history of violence.
The Epoch Times has reached out to representatives for Brown for comment, and did not receive a response at the time of publication.
