Appearing before the Southwark Crown Court on Friday, the 37-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of affray after previously denying more serious allegations connected to the altercation.
Brown was arrested and charged in the United Kingdom last year in connection to the incident at a nightclub in London’s Hanover Square, where he allegedly attacked a music producer with a bottle.
As part of the proceedings, prosecutors withdrew additional charges, including assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon.
“This was a vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown and [Omololu] Akinlolu in a crowded nightclub where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice,” said senior prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Claire Campbell, in a statement.
“This kind of violence is entirely unacceptable, and the Crown Prosecution Service will work tirelessly—with the police and partners across the criminal justice system—to pursue cases like this, and prove that no one is above the law,” Campbell added.
Brown’s friend and co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also entered a guilty plea to affray during Friday’s hearing. The two are scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 26, and under UK law, the offense of an affray carries a maximum sentence of three years behind bars.
According to CPS, Akinlolu joined Brown in the confrontation shortly after it began, allegedly striking the victim in the head and later kicking him while he was unable to defend himself.
At the time of his arrest, the musician was denied bail and held in custody just as he was slated to kick off his Breezy Bowl XX Stadium World Tour with performances in Amsterdam and Germany.
