Cause of Death Revealed for Kristoff St. John of ‘Young and the Restless’

Longtime “Young and the Restless” soap opera star Kristoff St. John died of heart disease and an accidental alcohol overdose, it was reported.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office listed his official cause of death as hypertrophic heart disease and is categorized his death as accidental, TMZ reported, adding that the disease specifically makes it hard for the heart to pump blood and often goes undiagnosed.

The actor was apparently drinking a lot during the time of his death, according to the report.

St. John was found dead in his home in California’s San Fernando Valley.

A friend of the actor found his found, and officials pronounced him dead on the scene, according to reports.

“The news of Kristoff St. John’s passing is heartbreaking. He was a very talented actor and an even better person,” CBS Television Network and Sony Pictures Television said in a joint statement, reported E! News.

“For those of us who were fortunate enough to work with him on The Young and the Restless for the last 27 years, he was a beloved friend whose smile and infectious laugh made every day on set a joy and made audiences love him. On behalf of the Y&R cast and crew, CBS and Sony Pictures Television, we offer our heartfelt sympathy to his family and loved ones, especially his two daughters, Paris and Lola,” it said.

St. John had played Neil Winters on the long-running TV show since 1991, earning him a number of Emmy Award nominations.

His son, Julian, took his own life in 2014.

The actor is survived by his daughters, Paris and Lola, according to CBS Los Angeles.

His last activity on Twitter was when he retweeted a message earlier this year.

The tweet said, “Grieving the loss of a child is a process. It begins on the day your child passes, and ends the day the parent joins them.”

St. John had replied with: “Never a truer word was spoke (sic). Thanks for posting this.”
