The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index declined by 7.9 points, to 86, in April from March, the fifth straight monthly decline, the think tank said in an April 29 statement.

The index has fallen to “levels not seen since the onset of the COVID pandemic,” said Stephanie Guichard, senior economist of global indicators at The Conference Board.
