Washington State’s Race-Based Housing Finance Program Faces Federal Probe

One of the program’s eligibility criteria indicates that the applicant must be of certain racial ancestry.

The Trump administration’s housing department has launched an investigation into the Washington State Housing Finance Commission for allegedly violating the Fair Housing Act via its race-based housing finance program, according to a March 24 statement.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity notified the commission of the investigation into the state’s Covenant Homeownership Program.
