LONDON/SINGAPORE—World shares lost steam on Tuesday as investor enthusiasm about a peak in global interest rates faded, while the Australian dollar dropped after investors bet central bank rate hikes were nearing their end.

The MSCI world equity index, which tracks shares in 47 countries, fell 0.3 percent. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan slipped 1.2 percent, snapping three straight days of gains.
