Gabriela Isler, a 25-year-old Venezuelan television personality, was crowned Miss Universe 2013.
There were a total of 86 contestants from around the world.
Last year’s winner, Olivia Culpo, put the crown on Isler’s head.
According to the International Business Times, she was asked about her greatest fear.
“Fear is not negative. We should overcome all our fears and this in turn would make us stronger. As soon as we overcome our fears we can face any challenge,” she answered.
Co-host Thomas Roberts, an American television presenter, dedicated the show to the Philippines, which was damaged during Typhoon Hainan.
“We send our very best, our thoughts. We dedicate tonight’s show to you” he said, according to AFP.
Miss Philippines Ariella Arida uploaded a video on Instagram, saying that she would compete.
“Filipino spirit is stronger than any typhoon! Stay safe everyone! #prayforthePhilippines #forthephilippines,” she wrote.
“Keep safe Philippines from the people here in Moscow! #prayforthephilippines,” she later said.
