Mrs. Beardslee, a mental health nurse practitioner, said: “It’s wonderful to learn about a different culture. We’re all dancers, so we like to watch different things.
She was impressed with the dancers’ talent and technique. “The dancers’ ability—How they make it look very natural to do the things they do when I know how hard it is,” she said.
Mr. Beardslee agreed. “They make very difficult things look very easy,” he said. He was glad his children could be exposed to another culture. “I think it opens their eyes to different cultures.”
Mrs. Beardslee said, “It’s a nice way to learn about a different culture through the arts.”
“A lot of my friends say, ‘Oh, you’re seeing a Chinese ballet,’ and it’s not. It’s the traditional Chinese dance, and you’re also learning about the culture, too. There’s visuals, and stories, and acting, so it’s more than just a ballet show,” Mrs. Beardslee said.
Shen Yun Like ‘A Fine Timepiece’
John Martinez and Frances Aguilar especially enjoyed the performance. “It’s very enlightening,” Mr. Martinez said. “It’s very visually stimulating.” He said this was his first time, but he had wanted to see Shen Yun for two years.Mr. Martinez compared Shen Yun’s performers to a beautifully produced watch. “The synchronicity, the timing. It’s like a fine instrument, a fine timepiece, the way that they work, coinciding with the orchestra. It’s magnificent,” he said.
The music affected her deeply. “The music is so amazing, very beautiful. There are no words to describe how amazing it is. It’s so beautiful.
Ms. Aguilar said she felt uplifted in many ways. “It’s a feeling inside you [that’s] very beautiful. It’s something alive. It’s very amazing.”
