Fifteen automotive companies have issued safety recalls for thousands of vehicles this week, including a number of luxury sedans.

While the bulk of the recalls affected trucks, SUVs, and cars, a handful of trailers and motorhomes were also impacted.

Listed on the Transport Canada website, this week’s recalls include:

Toyota

Toyota is conducting a safety recall on the 2022–2023 Toyota Tacoma. The company said approximately 21,035 vehicles are involved in the recall. Welding debris may have been left on the ends of the rear axle assembly during the manufacturing process, the company said. This could cause retaining nuts to loosen over time and eventually fall off, causing a part to separate from the axle. Separation could affect vehicle stability and brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash, the company said.
The Toyota Tundra, Toyota Sequoia, and Lexus LX 600 are under a separate recall due to a problem with the transmission that could cause affected vehicles to move forward when the driver is in neutral and the brakes aren’t applied. For the Tundra model, the recall affects both Tundra and Tundra Hybrid models. For the Sequoia model, only the Sequoia Hybrid model is impacted.
Toyota has recalled its 2023–2024 Lexus ES 350, ES 300H, LS 500H, LS 500, LC 500H, and LC 500 after discovering a software problem that may cause a delay before the rearview camera image displays. Transport Canada said, “Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display within 2 seconds of shifting the transmission into reverse gear.”
Toyota has also recalled its 2023 and 2024 Camry due to the head restraints on the second-row centre and/or right seat potentially not being properly welded. The company has said the possible defect could cause the head restraint to move or detach from the seat in a crash.

Mercedes-Benz

The 2023 and 2024 S-Class, EQS Sedan, EQS SUV, EQE Sedan, AMG GT, GLC Class, C Class, E Class, SL Class vehicles have all been recalled by Mercedes-Benz due to a potential danger of overheating. The 80 A fuse in some vehicles may not have been manufactured properly, which could cause the car to overheat and fail.

“If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels,” the recall notice stated.

“This could also cause the instrument cluster not to work. A fuse and wiring that overheats can create the risk of a fire. A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.”

The company also recalled its 2024 GLE Class due to potential welding issues with the accelerator pedal bracket. The issue, the notice said, could result in the pedal deforming or detaching causing the accelerator pedal to stay applied and/or block the brake pedal.
A potential software problem led to the recall of the Mercedes-Benz 2020–2023 GLS Class and GLE Class. The software issue could cause engines in impacted vehicles to stall during a downshift, resulting in a sudden loss of power to the wheels. The recall only impacts models with a V6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission.

BMW

The German auto manufacturer has issued a recall notice for its 2024 BMW X2 because the compliance label lists incorrect tire and rim sizes on certain vehicles. When rims and tires are replaced, the wrong rims and/or tires could be installed, leading to poor handling or even tire failure. Both increase the risk of a crash, the company said.
A recall for various 2023 and 2024 models of the BMW 7 Series, BMW XM, BMW X7, BMW X1, BMW 5 Series, BMW X5, BMW X6, and Rolls Royce Spectre has also been issued after the company detected a problem with the integrated brake system that could cause reduced power brake assist. The issue can result in reduced braking and failure of the antilock braking system and dynamic stability control. Reduced braking and antilock brake and stability control systems failures could “increase the risk of a crash,” the company said.

General Motors

General Motors is recalling the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon after discovering the automatic emergency braking system (AEB) could be faulty in as many as 4,981 vehicles.

“Under certain conditions, a software problem with the front camera module could cause the AEB system to falsely detect an obstacle and activate when it is not needed,” the recall notice said. “If this happens, the system will stop or slow the vehicle down suddenly.

If the AEB system activates with braking when no potential collision is present, it could increase the risk of a crash.”

Volkswagen

Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Golf Wagon, Volkswagen GTI, Volkswagen Jetta models between 2015 and 2020 are being recalled due to potential fuel leaks.
A seal for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank could fail on impacted models, the recall notice said. The problem could cause fuel to flow directly into the evaporative emission control system, causing a fuel odour, the fuel nozzle to stop early, and/or fuel to spill when refuelling, which the notice described as a potential fire hazard.

Ford

Ford issued a recall of its 2023 Bronco after discovering the left and right-rear quarter glass may not be properly attached on some vehicles with a hard top. “As a result, the glass could become loose and separate from the vehicle,” the recall notice stated.
The company has also recalled the 2023 and 2024 models of the Ford F-750 and Ford 650s due to potential issues with the parking brake. The company said the handle could be released without pushing the release button, which would result in the vehicle moving unexpectedly. The recall only involves certain Super Duty incomplete vehicles.

Chrysler

The 2023 and 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been recalled by Fiat Chrysler due to a potential issue with the steering knuckle. The company said the part may not have been manufactured properly, resulting in improper installation of the ball joint which could lead to it separating from the knuckle, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Fiat Chrysler has also issued a recall for its 2023–2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee because the high beam headlamps may not turn on if the light switch is set to “Auto.”

Jaguar

Jaguar is recalling its I-Pace SUV after it was discovered the turn signal may not work properly on certain models from 2021–2024. On affected vehicles, the turn signal telltale will flash at the same speed even if the bulb has failed. “As a result, you may not notice when a turn signal bulb is not working,” the notice said. “Turn signals that do not work may cause a person not to recognize when a driver intends to turn or change lanes” increasing the risk of a crash.

Porsche

The 2023 911 Turbo, 911 Targa, and 911 Carrera from Porsche have been recalled due to the rear passenger seat belts possibly containing “defective automatic locking retractors” that could cause them not to lock properly when securing a child seat.

Hyundai

A recall has been announced for 2015 and 2016 models of the Hyundai Elantra after it was discovered a part in the trunk release latch could fail. If this happens, the emergency trunk release located inside the trunk may not work properly, preventing a person trapped inside from opening it.

Honda

Honda has recalled its 2024 Odyssey minivan, saying water could enter the steering gearbox assembly causing the gears to corrode and stick together. The company said this could result in a loss of steering control.
Transport Canada has also issued recall notices for the Paccar Kenworth truck dating from 2019–2024, Forest River RV trailers across a range of years, Keystone’s 2024 Springdale and Hideout RV trailers, and a variety of Jayco 2024 motorhome models.

Many of the recall notices say affected vehicle owners will receive notification by mail from the manufacturer with information about the issue and instructions for having the vehicle repaired. Most companies offer a search option for individual VINs, enabling owners to see if their vehicle has been recalled.
