RCMP in Nova Scotia have arrested a man who was the subject of an emergency alert issued to residents in the province’s Lunenburg County on May 14.
The emergency alert was issued to Lunenburg County residents on the morning May 14, warning of a “dangerous man who may be armed.”
“Seek immediate shelter or stay inside and close and lock doors and windows. Do not leave a secure location,” RCMP Nova Scotia said in a social media post following the alert.
Police investigators searched a wooded area of Lower Northfield, Nova Scotia, following notifications from the public about MacInnis’s whereabouts the same morning.
Several RCMP departments, including remotely piloted aircraft and police dog services, collaborated with Bridgewater Police Service (BPS) to contain the area after locating MacInnis, who they said was attempting to flee the area. Officers seized a machete while on the scene, which was believed to have been in MacInnis’s possession.
Police located MacInnis in a shed and arrested him around an hour after the alert was issued, RCMP said in the release.
RCMP in Lunenburg District and Halifax received multiple reports of break and enters that matched up with MacInnis’s whereabouts over the past week leading up to the arrest, authorities said.
MacInnis faced two break-and-enter charges in 2023, following his arrest on multiple charges and outstanding warrants.
Police were notified of two break and enters on Jan. 28, 2023—one at a Bridgewater, N.S., residence and another at a local business. BPS deployed their K-9 unit to track the suspect and located an abandoned vehicle containing a firearm, multiple knives, a taser, pellet gun, and stolen property linked to one of the calls they had received.
“On February 1, 2023, Bridgewater Police Service responded to an unrelated medical call during which members learned information relating to the whereabouts of the break-and-enter suspect,” BPS said in the release.
Police located and arrested MacInnis shortly afterwards at a Bridgewater hotel, laying multiple charges including two counts of break and enter, three counts of theft, four counts of possessing stolen property, and several charges related to possessing firearms and weapons used for break and enter.
