Nearly 25,000 Land Rover sport utility vehicles are being recalled in Canada because of a potential airbag problem that could increase the risk of injury during a collision.
A total of 24,658 vehicles from the automaker have been recalled across the country, Transport Canada said in a recall notice. Originally posted on June 12, the recall notice was further updated on July 8.
“On certain vehicles, the connector for the driver-front airbag in the steering wheel could corrode,” the recall notice said, adding that the issue could result in the airbag warning light activating.
“As a result, the driver-front airbag may not inflate in a crash.”
The SUVs impacted in Canada include the following models and years:
  • Land Rover Defender 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
  • Land Rover Discovery 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
  • Land Rover Range Rover 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
Land Rover will notify all affected owners by mail, instructing them to bring their vehicle to a dealership for the application of grease to the terminals of the driver’s airbag connector.
Jaguar Land Rover North America also recently issued a recall for more than 250,000 SUVs in the United States due to a related air bag issue. The company initially announced a “voluntary safety recall” in a report released by the U.S. Department of Transportation on June 12.
The company also issued a recall in Canada in April for more than 14,000 vehicles due to safety concerns affecting mild hybrid electric vehicles.
The recall affecting 14,542 Land Rover SUVs was prompted by a potential failure of the DC/DC converter, which could lead to the battery not charging, causing the loss of power to the wheels and lights.
Owners can contact Jaguar Land Rover directly for additional information or visit the website to determine whether their vehicle is impacted in either recall.
