Israeli military chief Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said on Nov. 23 that he had dismissed several senior officers and reprimanded others for their roles in the intelligence and operational breakdowns that allowed the terrorist group Hamas to carry out its deadly Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel.

Zamir, who delivered his remarks in a nationally broadcast address, said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bore “a severe, resounding, systemic failure.”
