Israel issued evacuation orders for several areas in northern Gaza on Sunday, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for an end to the war in Gaza, which has raged for 20 months.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) urged people in northern Gaza to move south toward the Al-Mawasi area in Khan Younis.

“A warning to all those present in the area of Gaza City and Jabalia, and in the neighborhoods of Eastern Zeitoun, the Old City, Turkmen, Ajdida, Tuffah, Daraj, Sabra, Jabalia al-Balad, Jabalia al-Nazla, Jabalia Camp, Rawda, Nahda, Zahour, Nour, Salam, and Tel al-Zaatar,” the IDF’s chief Arabic language spokesperson, Colonel Avichay Adraee, wrote.

“For your safety, evacuate immediately to the south, to the Al-Mawasi area. The Israel Defense Forces are operating with very intense force in these areas, and these military operations will escalate, intensify, and expand westward toward the city center to destroy the capabilities of the terrorist organizations.”

On Monday, Adraee posted a similar warning on X, adding: “We inform you that IDF forces are present in the Salah al-Din axis area, and therefore the axis has been closed. For your safety, evacuate immediately westward, and then southward to the Al-Mawasi area via Al-Rasheed Road.”

On Sunday, Trump said in an all-caps social media post, “Make the deal in Gaza. Get the hostages back!!!”

That same day, Trump also called on Israeli prosecutors to drop their corruption trial against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which he labeled a “political witch hunt.”
“Let BIBI go, he’s got a big job to do!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Saturday, referring to the prime minister by his nickname.

“We are not going to stand for this” Trump said of his prosecution, stressing that the United States spends billions of dollars a year to protect and support Israel.

Following Trump’s statement, the Jerusalem District Court canceled this week’s trial hearings after initially rejecting Netanyahu’s request for a delay. It is unclear whether the decision was influenced by the U.S. president’s social media intervention.

Egypt and Qatar, backed by the United States, are working to broker a new cease-fire to halt hostilities and secure the release of hostages still held by Hamas.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said during an interview with Egypt’s ON TV channel on Sunday that the proposal, being jointly proposed by the two Arab nations and Washington, was a first stage toward ending the conflict.

“We hope for a lasting peace, but the current negotiations are focused on a 60-day cease-fire in exchange for hostage releases and humanitarian access,” he said. “This could serve as a foundation for a second phase, reviving the January 19 framework. The U.S. sees value in providing guarantees to make the ceasefire sustainable, as any renewed escalation would be disastrous.”

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a social media post on Monday that Atty had spoken on the phone with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff.

According to the ministry, during the call, Atty emphasized the urgent need to reinstate the cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and to secure the release of hostages and detainees. He also stressed that these steps are essential to sustaining a cease-fire and advancing Trump’s vision for achieving comprehensive peace in the Middle East, the ministry said.

Atty’s comments come after Trump said on Friday that a cease-fire agreement to bring an end to the Israel–Hamas war in Gaza could potentially be achieved “within the next week.”

During an Oval Office event marking a Congo–Rwanda accord, Trump told reporters that he had spoken with individuals involved in the efforts to broker a cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas.

“I think it’s close, I just spoke with some of the people involved, and it’s a terrible situation that’s going Gaza,” Trump said. “We think within the next week, we’re going to get a cease-fire.”
