Health Canada is expanding a previous recall of Oster toaster ovens due to the risk of burn injuries from oven doors that can shut unexpectedly.
The health agency updated its recall on Dec. 8 to include model TSSTTVFDDG-033 of the Oster French door countertop oven. This expands a recall first issued on Sept. 25 that covered models TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDGDS, TSSTTVFDXLPP-033, and TSSTTVFDDAF-033. Model numbers can be found on the back of the oven.
The action follows 95 consumer reports in the United States of oven doors closing unexpectedly, with 93 consumers experiencing minor burns and two reporting second-degree burns. The company says no injuries or incidents have been reported in Canada as of Dec. 4.
The affected ovens were sold between January 2015 and July 2025, including 170,560 units in Canada and 1,290,000 units in the United States, according to Health Canada. The recalled models, manufactured in China, have two side-by-side doors instead of a single pull-down door, and vary in colour, cooking options, and control types.
The health agency advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled items and contact Sunbeam Products to obtain a free repair kit. The kit, shipped directly to consumers, includes a clip-on device that keeps the oven doors open during use, comes with installation instructions, and requires no additional tools.
“At Oster, we hold rigorous standards in product design and testing and have carefully investigated reports of the product’s doors closing unexpectedly during use,” the company said in a safety notice. “We are committed to supporting consumers who rely on their Oster French Door Countertop Oven.”
The company is not offering refunds or replacements. It says the repair clip-on device, which uses a magnetic system to attach to the oven doors’ metal base and keep them open during use, provides a quick and effective fix.
Health Canada issued the recall together with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Sunbeam Products Inc.
Recalled products in Canada cannot be redistributed, sold, or given away under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
Health Canada advises consumers to report health or safety incidents related to products or cosmetics by filling out the consumer product incident report form.
The health agency last week issued another recall over burn hazards, this time for True Wireless Earbuds sold by Giant Tiger. The risk of burns and fire comes from USB charging cords that may overheat during charging, as they were manufactured with the wrong wiring material.

The recall applies to more than 16,000 units bought between July 17 and Oct. 14. Users are advised to stop using the earbuds immediately and return them to a Giant Tiger store for a refund.
