Britain’s ‘Broken’ Cash System Needs Overhaul, Say Lawmakers

LONDON—Britain’s system for cash is “broken” and needs a fundamental rethink to avoid vulnerable people being cut off, lawmakers and regulators said on Feb. 12.

Lawmakers are concerned that free-to-use cash machines or ATMs in rural areas are being closed as falling demand for notes make them uneconomic, leaving customers isolated.
