DHAKA, Bangladesh—Polling booths were set ablaze on Jan. 6 in Bangladesh on the eve of general elections, while four people, including two children, were killed in a train fire that the government described as arson targeting democratic values.

The train fire on Jan. 5 also left eight passengers injured as it spread to four compartments of the Benapole Express, which was headed for the capital, Dhaka.
