Former Australian Liberal politician Nick Adams has been nominated as the United States’ top diplomatic representative in Malaysia.

Adams, 40, previously served as a councillor and deputy mayor in Sydney before relocating to the United States, where he settled in Florida.

He went on to write several books on conservative topics, including ‘Green Card Warrior: My Quest for Legal Immigration in an Illegals’ System,’ which U.S. President Donald Trump labelled a “must read” in 2016.

In his book, Adams expresses his difficulties in migrating to the U.S. legitimately under the Obama administration of the time.

He has since penned multiple books on U.S. politics.

Adams confirmed his nomination as the U.S. ambassador for Malaysia on July 10.

“Receiving the call of duty is the greatest day in the life of any American,” he said in a video posted on the social media platform X.

“For some, duty calls them to take the oath of elected office, a sacred pledge before God to defend the Constitution, the flag and the republic for which it stands.

“Today, duty has called me to serve my country overseas, not in the uniform of combat, but armed with the pen of diplomacy.”

Adams called it the “honour of a lifetime.”

“The president has extended the hand of friendship to old allies and new across the world,” he said.

“It is nothing short of a lifetime’s honour to take the President’s goodwill and spread it to the great people of Malaysia.”

Adams was first elected as a Sydney councillor in 2004, aged 19.

By 20, he had taken on a deputy mayor role.

But Adams has long maintained an avid interest in American life.

“Throughout my adult life, I have written books detailing my unending love affair with the United States,” he said.

The White House announced Adams’ nomination in a brief media statement.

“Nicholas Adams, of Florida, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Malaysia,” it read.

It also listed several other nominees, including Sean O'Neill as ambassador to Thailand, Eric Meyer as ambassador to Sri Lanka, and Julie Stufft as ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“Mr. President, thank you for the honour of a lifetime,” Adams wrote.

“In your America, all dreams come true. It will be my honour to represent the United States of America in Malaysia.”

Adams’ position is set to be officially marked with an upcoming confirmation process.
